There have been big changes for our fourth and fifth grades this new school year. With the expansion of our Chromebook program and departmentalizing of educational subjects, our students are being introduced to practices and skills that will prepare them for the next level of education.
The 1:1 Chromebook program teaches the students skills such as managing an email account, working in GoogleDrive, and keyboarding. More state tests are moving to computer-based testing, so students need to be equipped with typing skills and be comfortable with working on a computer for them to excel. Starting this year, the 4th and 5th-grade teachers split subjects: Math/Science are taught by Mrs. Curtin and ELA/SS are taught by Mrs. Podalicki. Students are being introduced to switching classes, working with different teachers, and learning time management.
Accessible technology is not new for our Elementary School--the Early Childhood Center houses a set of iPads for the students to work in the classroom; our 2nd and 3rd grades have a dedicated set of Google tablets, and our upper grades are already taking advantage of a 1:1 Chromebook technology program.
